How often do you hear about nutrition in a post about marriage, or biblical womanhood?
God designed our bodies to function in a certain way. When we treat our bodies well, with proper nutrition, vitamins, minerals, all the fruits, vegetables, and whole grains we need, our bodies will in turn function well.
When we "treat" ourselves with desserts, sodas, processed foods, sodium, and other things that should be consumed only in moderation, our bodies are left scrambling trying to process everything it wasn't made to process.
Interestingly, when our bodies are out of alignment that way, our emotions are affected as well.
When we don't take care of our needs nutritionally, we end up feeling:
- lethargic
- irritable
- anxious
- easily angered
- depressed
- unable to sleep
- exhausted
- unfocused
- unable to remember things
- an inability to concentrate
While I am not a nutritionist by any means, nor am I an experienced cook (I can read and follow a good recipe, but that's about it), I do know the benefits of making healthy food choices, and developing a clean supplement routine.
I'm also a busy mom, so I don't have a ton of time to worry about preparing a ton of snacks or hours of food prep.
What I recommend is finding a few things you love, and rotating them.
Breakfast for me is typically oatmeal. Sometimes I'll add peanut butter or fruit.
Lunch is usually leftovers from dinner, or a salad mix, or hummus and pita, or soup.
Snacks are typically a smoothie, Greek yogurt, apples, bananas, grapes, or a handful of trail mix.
Dinner is whole grain pasta, or soy-based chicken alternatives (I'm a vegetarian because I don't enjoy meat, but if you like chicken and fish like my family does, choose those!), with salad, potatoes, brown rice, or steamed veggies.
I drink coffee in the mornings, then stick to water the rest of the day (unless I have wine with my husband - in moderation because obviously).
I also take several supplements that play a HUGE part in helping me to feel good every day. NingXia Red, Super B, MultiGreens, Mighty Pro are all supplements I take regularly. Check out this cheat sheet of supplements to help support you in your personal health journey.
When we treat our bodies well, they will treat us well.
When we FEEL good, we can focus on serving those around us performing the good works God has prepared in advance for us to do.
When we take care of our health, and our bodies are functioning correctly, we will have better control over our emotions so that we can respond to our husbands with more kindness, respect, and selfless service.
Have you noticed this to be true in your health and marriage? I would love to hear how taking better care of your nutrition has equipped you to better serve your husband and family. Please share in the comments!
